Crafty Goodness

Posted by Liz McCoy Monday, November 29, 2010 View Comments

The last couple weeks and especially this weekend we’ve been focusing on crafting. My mom and my sisters and I have been diligently working on projects that we plan to sell at the 4th Annual Cardinal Lake Gift Bazaar. I thought I’d share with you some of the goodies we have to offer this year.

Hard Candy

Handmade Hard Candy - 3 flavors, Cinnamon, Wintergreen, & Spearmint available for purchase Dec 4 at the Craft Bazaar http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=157153067648020

We’ve made three different flavors: Cinnamon, Wintergreen, and Spearmint.

Bath Salts

Bath Salts in 3 different scents. Being sold at the gift bazaar: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=157153067648020

I love these bath salts it is the gift I ask for from my hubby and son. We made three different scents: Pomegranate, Orange Spice and Lemon.

PlayDoh Stocking Stuffers

IMG_7243

Colorful holiday sacks filled with PlayDoh perfect little presents to fill the stockings.

Reusable Veggie Bags

Reusable Veggie Bags

These are fantastic! Maybe you already use reusable grocery bags? You can take these mesh bags with you to the grocery store and fill them with your veggies and fruit instead of using all those plastic bags. You leave the produce in the bags and put it directly into your refrigerator.  They can be reused over and over.

Gift Tags

These little gift tags are fun to adorn your packages and give them that extra special decoration.

Christmas Pillow Cases

Christmas Pillow Cases selling these Dec 4 http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=157153067648020

These are so great! I still have mine from childhood that my grandma made me.  Sleeping on a fun Christmas Pillow Case really makes the holiday come quicker, and encourages those sugar plum dreams.

Cupcake Ornaments

IMG_7101

How cute are these? The perfect ornament for the year of the cupcake!

Crayon Rolls

2010-11-27

Crayon Rolls are awesome! We kept them compact (and included crayons) so they would not take up too much room in mommy’s purse or the diaper bag.  They great for entertaining the kiddos while sitting in waiting rooms, sitting at the kitchen table while mom cooks, and they’re fantastic to take to church and other activities that require quiet entertainment.

We’ve got a few other items that we will be selling on December 4th, so be sure to come by and check us out. Here are the details

The 4th Annual Cardinal Lake Gift Bazaar

When: December 4, 2010

Time:  10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Where: Cardinal Lake Club House

What: In addition to our goodies listed above here are a few other details: Handmade crafts and goodies perfect for gift giving this holiday season. Lunch will be available for purchase. New this year: there will be a Bake Sale with proceeds going toward the scheduled lake repairs.

This is the last post in the 30 day blog challenge. This whole process was quite a challenge indeed. I have enjoyed being more faithful to blogging and I hope you all have enjoyed reading the posts.  I will definitely try and continue to be more faithful to document life here on the blog.

The prompt to close out this challenge is:

Day 30-a picture

Wishes

Posted by Liz McCoy Saturday, November 20, 2010 View Comments

Well I’m nearly finished with the 30 day blog challenge issued by my friend Heather. I’ve kind of fallen off the wagon for a week or so but I’m nearly caught up. The topic for today’s post is:

Day 29-3 Wishes

Hmmm well I’m not much of a wisher, I definitely do set goals and I have a wishlist of items I want.

I’d say some of my biggest goals or wishes would be:

  1. To build/buy our dream house with cash.
  2. To have 4 healthy kids
  3. To get a vintage camper to restore

Hmmm should I have wished for world peace? I thought those were light and fun “wishes”. What are your three wishes?

Today’s topic in the 30 day blog challenge is:

Day 28-Something that stresses you out

stress[1]

I can definitely say something that has stressed me out in the past is my day job. It has been quite the struggle to work nearly full time and then come home and try and have energy and effectiveness at home.

I’m so eager to really get home full time and put all the energy and effort that I put into my job into my home life and taking care of my family.

Speaking of I’ve set the date for my last day which will be December 17th.  I’ve been working diligently to try and get things communicated and handed over to those who will handle the responsibilities after I leave.

Don’t get me wrong I’m so blessed and thankful that God provided a job for me that I could work the last 10 years. The income I made was a great supplement to my husband’s and has helped us live a very blessed life, providing for our family.

Day 27-Pets

We have no pets right now.  Although we all would like one someday we have not plans right now.  However the kiddo is getting good at making suggestions and hints.  The other day he said to me “Mom, did you know dogs LOOOOVVVVEEE babies?”

We do really want to get him a dog but right now I just don’t think I could handle one more new thing next year.  Once I get the 2 kids and homeschooling down we’ll start thinking about getting that dog.

Today’s prompt for the 30 Day Blog Challenge is:

Day 26-Picture of your family

Well I’ve been a bit behind on this challenge, and it has kind of worked out, because now I have a great recent picture of our family.  On November 20th we had our pictures taken by Tonya Douglas Photography. This is one of the amazing shots she got for us.  I can’t wait to see what else develops!

Music

Today’s blog prompt in the 30 Day Blog Challenge is:

Day 25-Put your iPod on shuffle, first 10 songs

images[1]

Well I’m not much of a music lover, I enjoy it very much and listen to the radio, but I’m not one of those people who have their iPods with them all the time. I actually have a 2nd generation black and white iPod that’s battery hardly holds a charge. I never use it. I actually don’t even have all my music installed on the new laptop.

I love listening to podcasts though sometimes I’ll do that through iTunes, but lots of the time I just listen over the internet.

My favorite podcasts are:

The Paperclipping RoundTable

The Paperclipping DigiShow

I do very much want to get an iPad and would like to load up all my music and video onto it, maybe once I save up my mad money and get one I’ll have a good answer to this blog prompt.

Monday Check In

Posted by Liz McCoy Monday, November 15, 2010 View Comments

We had a great weekend. Saturday was great we got lots accomplished around the house and the yard.  Sunday I got all of the kiddo’s closet cleaned out and the clothes swapped. Then Sunday afternoon the kiddo kind of slowed down and then later in the evening he ended up with a 102 / 103 degree fever that lasted through the night and still around today.  I would have liked to be more productive but I’m super pleased with all that we accomplished.

To Finish List:

  1. Clean out and Organize the kiddo’s closet (pack up summer clothes)FINISHED!
  2. Tackle the hanger issueFINISHED!! I can’t wait to show you pictures of the solution.
  3. Yard Worklots of hard work accomplished….then the next day the leaves fell.
  4. Clean off the Kitchen table started but not finished. This is my major trouble spot in the house.

To Play List:

  1. Read another chapter in Financial Peace Revisited went to bed early each night and never cracked the book.
  2. Scrapbook one layoutstarted, not quite finished.

How was your weekend? Did you tackle any projects?

I’m still learning

Today’s topic in the 30 Day Blog Challenge is:

Day 24-Something you've learned

One of the things I’ve learned is that I NEED to get more patient with people with myself in all kinds of situations. I’ve improved a lot over the years but I’m still not where I’d like to be.

I am glad I’ve recognized that’s an area I need to continue to learn and grow. I think it is necessary as a mom to really have patience, and I’m sure next year with 2 kiddos and being at home full time I will have lots of opportunity to exercise patience.

Day 23-Favorite vacation

Hmmm I feel like I kind of covered this with my favorite place to visit. I guess I’ll go in a different direction and share with you our vacation last year in New York City for Christmas.  We had a great time but I would definitely not say it is my favorite place to visit. I won’t be going back especially at Christmas time. It was a once in a lifetime experience that I will definitely remember.

We saw some AMAZING things all while freezing our bums off.

Today’s topic in the 30 day blog challenge is:

Day 22-Favorite city

Well I’ve traveled to and through a bunch of cities here in the USA I’ve come to see that I’m not much of a city girl. I prefer suburbs and country to the “big city”. However cities are fun to visit.  I’d say that Chicago is one of my favorite cities to visit.

There are so many museums and shops, lots of things for families too, and the views are amazing. Oh and let’s not forget that deep dish pizza!! YUMMY. I’ve been to Chicago twice once with my friend and once on a business trip for my boss and I watched his daughter. Both times I’ve enjoyed getting to explore the city through different perspectives.  The museums are just amazing and the Shedd Aquarium is my absolute favorite aquarium, it is so big and roomy, not like our local aquarium.

Have you started thinking about holiday cards? It’s been on my mind for a few weeks now. I absolutely love receiving holiday cards in the mail and what makes some more special than others is getting to see the smiling faces of my friends and family with a photo. I always enjoy sending just the right photo with my holiday cards. We have an upcoming photo session and I know the photographer will capture this year’s perfect holiday photo.

I put a lot of thought and planning into the holiday photo and just as much into finding the exact right card to showcase the photo. My favorite kind of holiday card is a flat design with a photo on the front, I feel that it is perfect for posting on the refrigerator, bulletin board, and sometimes framing. My goal with including a photo on my holiday card is that it will stay around a bit longer after the holiday is over.

Recently I saw the quality of Shutterfly’s cards and they were AMAZING, the quality is outstanding! There are so many beautiful Holiday Photo Cards to choose from, I’ve narrowed things down to a few favorites but right now this is the top contender:

Finish It Friday

Posted by Liz McCoy View Comments

One of the organizing blogs I subscribe to has a little blog prompt for Fridays and it is all about getting things done. I am going to follow her template of having two lists, one to finish and one to play.  The goal is to accomplish these items over the weekend and I’ll report back to you on Monday.

To Finish List:

  1. Clean out and Organize the kiddo’s closet (pack up summer clothes)
  2. Tackle the hanger issue
  3. Yard Work
  4. Clean off the Kitchen table

To Play List:

  1. Read another chapter in Financial Peace Revisited
  2. Scrapbook one layout

The goal is to get something done, so I tried not to overwhelm myself with all the items on my mental to-do list.  So we’ll see how things go this weekend and I’ll give a detailed report on Monday.

What’s on your to-do list? Have you been putting off projects??

What’s in a Name?

Day 20-Nicknames

I’ve had a few nicknames over the years and depending on when you knew me first that’s kind of what you call me.  When I was little it was Lizzy then as I got older in high school and college it was Liz. Now I’d say it’s Elizabeth (and yes I know that’s not a nickname at all).

Those are my public nicknames my husband calls me honey and babe and little names that husbands call their wives.

Now that I have my son I’d consider mom or mommy nicknames too!

Day 19-Something you miss

SLEEP! I don’t know if I exactly remember what a full night’s uninterrupted sleep is like. It has been quite a long time. This next year will be even worse, but the sleepless nights are SOOO worth it right?

It all started with this little guy:

Jack 8-13-06 007

I cannot wait for another little one to cuddle and stay up all night with and to love as much as I love this guy! It will be amazing! So I guess this post kind of covers two things that I miss sleep and loving on my little baby!

Day 18-Something you regret

study-stuff[1]

I definitely do not dwell on the things I may not have accomplished or things I feel are regrets. I do have some though.  I would definitely say a big regret is not developing real study skills. I’ve seen this really have an impact on my life in college as well as now. I takes a lot to really get my focused and effective when studying topics. I have a short attention span and it is getting worse! This is one of the reasons I am so motivated to encourage and foster a love for reading in my children.

This might not be the juiciest regret but it is one that I have.

Day 17-Something you're looking forward to

Right now there are so many things I’m excited to see happen in the next few weeks and months. Obviously the birth of our second child is the biggest thing right now. I am so very excited to meet her and figure out being a mommy to more than one child.  I definitely think that is going to be a challenge. Oh and shopping in the girl section of the stores that I am so very excited to do! Those of you with girls is it just fabulous all the ruffles and frills?

I haven’t gotten much done in her room, but I’ve been busy working lately so that will have to wait a little longer.

Mom went through the boxes of keepsake clothes she had from herself and us girls this weekend so I have a few cute outfits for Emma that have special meaning.

And what would a blog post be without a picture?? Here is one from our Bless ‘n Treat party on the 31st.

Day 16-Dream house

blueprints[1]

Oh what a topic for today! This is definitely something I think about often but not with too much definite plans or certainty. One day we will have our “dream house” but right now things are certainly still in the dreaming phase and I like it right there.

I know for sure I want a house that’s not too big and not to small for our family. Something that is easy to manage as a home maker. Something with character but not problems. LIGHT lots and lots of natural light!!

I very much enjoy watching HGTV’s design shows and seeing all the ideas and talent.  Watching those kind of shows have helped me to narrow down some design styles as MY style.  Some designs are completely in line with my style and others are way off in a different direction, but that’s what makes it fun to DREAM!

Having rented a few places now we’ve really seen what we like and don’t like in homes.  We’ve also grown in our family size and our design tastes have changed, and that’s one of the benefits of not owning right now.

Sometimes it is difficult to wait and not give into the “I want it NOW” attitude but we’ve set goals as a married couple and we know that God will honor our commitment.

Priorities

Posted by Liz McCoy Saturday, November 6, 2010 View Comments

Yesterday was quite a busy day and I didn’t get to completing the 30 day blog challenge.

Day 15-Bible verse

Matthew 6:33 (King James Version)

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you

I really enjoy this verse because it helps me to stay focused on my priorities. First and foremost is my walk with God. Those things that I may want or need will come to pass but first I must keep those Godly things first.

2010 Ornament Exchange!

Posted by Liz McCoy Friday, November 5, 2010 View Comments

It’s that time again. I’m hosting a simple ornament exchange here on my blog. We had great fun last year.

The Details:
  • Open to kids and kids at heart (adults).
  • Fill out the form below. Sign ups will close at midnight PST on Sunday, November 21st.  An email with your recipients will go out on November 22nd.
  • You and/or your kid(s) will make at least 1 ornament and probably more it depends on how many people sign up.
  • The ornaments do not have to be 100% home made they can be premade with added decorations. We’re looking to have some crafting happening but there are no big rules on what type or kind of ornament. Keep in mind you’re shipping them.
  • Participants in the United States only please.
  • Try to keep your ornaments religion neutral. We have many people who celebrate the holiday season differently. Try gingerbread, snow, winter, snowflakes, trees, birds, etc.
  • Ornaments have to be mailed on or before Monday, December 7th! That’s a two week window to make your ornaments. We definitely want to make sure all the recipients get their ornaments in time for the holiday.

Have fun. Please let me know if you have signed up and cannot participate. We would hate to have someone on your list miss out on getting an ornament. Also if you have questions post comments after this post.

If you have problems with the embedded form please click here to fill out the form.

Day 14-A picture you love

I certainly have no shortage of photos much less my FAVORITE photos!!  Here is a recent shot of the kiddo dressed up in his Bless ‘n Treat costume.

He got to dress up twice this year. For the neighborhood party he was Buzz Lightyear:

My Goals

Posted by Liz McCoy Thursday, November 4, 2010 View Comments

Today’s topic for the 30 Day Blog Challenge is:

Day 13-Goals

These are some in-depth topics yesterday and today. I certainly have lots of goals! I consider my daily to-do list short term goals.  I also have lots of long term goals.

Here are some of my long term goals:

  • Raise my children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord
  • Homeschooling my children
  • Find something I’m passionate about and make a business out of it
  • Being a successful stay at home mom and home maker, taking care of the needs of my husband, and children and our household.
  • Stay faithful to living in God’s Word, by keeping my personal relationship with God as my first priority. (Matthew 6:33)

I think those are some of my over all goals, I think as things move forward and goals are accomplished I develop and find new goals to add and some to adjust.  How great is it to accomplish a goal. I especially love checking things off my to-do list and rejoicing in those accomplishments. How about you? Isn’t accomplishing a goal something super exciting in your life?

What I Believe

Posted by Liz McCoy Wednesday, November 3, 2010 View Comments

Sorry I didn’t post this yesterday. It has been a beyond busy week so far.  But I’m trying to catch up and get back on track with the 30 Day Blog Challenge. Today’s topic is:

Day 12-What you believe

Well this is quite the topic. I think I could talk your ear off on this and maybe even write a book on what it is I believe. I’m going to keep it short and sweet.

I’m a born again daughter of God. I endeavor to walk in fellowship with him each day. I believe that God is my sufficiency in ALL things and I see his deliverance each and every day.

A TV Junkie

Today’s topic in the 30 Day Blog Challenge is:

Day 11-Favorite tv shows

I’ve always been a big tv junkie I can remember it being a problem in high school I’ve since let off a bit and kind of just stick to my favorites. I get crushed when I add new programs and they get cancelled.

Here are some of my favorites, that I try not to miss an episode. Thank goodness for DVR’s and hulu.

  • Bones
  • Psych
  • White Collar
  • Royal Pains
  • Life Unexpected
  • Castle

Game Shows! I love a great game show they are my sports. I especially love the vintage shows like press your luck, match game, and the kids ones like double dare.

I do watch a bunch of other shows here and there but I would not consider them my favorites.

Eeek!

I’m continuing on the 30 Day Blog Challenge and today’s topic is:

Day 10-Something you're afraid of

Well I can say that I do try hard to not be afraid. One of my favorite promises in God’s Word to claim when I have opportunity to be afraid is this verse:

Joshua 1:9
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

I certainly am not perfect and at times I can let doubt turn into worry and into fear. I try not to hold onto those things and have long lasting fear.  Part of that is I don’t really say I’m afraid. I don’t confess that in my life. I may not be a fan or it is something I strongly dislike.

I’m definitely not a huge fan of creepy crawly things like spiders, crickets, rats, snake, etc. We do all that we can to minimize seeing those things around the house.

I’m also apprehensive in situations that I’m unfamiliar when I’m pushed outside my comfort zone. However I do like to expand that comfort zone. I find myself becoming more and more bold in those areas as well.

This photo isn’t too scary but he is missing his safety goggles so that a bit scary.  The photo was taken yesterday by my dad who had the kiddo help him get some fallen branches and trees for the campfire.  The kiddo was super proud to be “cutting down” a real tree all by himself.
