Autumn Tree Craft #wordlesswednesday

Posted by Liz McCoy Wednesday, September 28, 2011 View Comments

Yesterday we learned and discussed how and why the leaves change color. We reinforced that lesson today with a fun fall themed craft.
First we traced his hand and part of his arm to make our paper tree. He practiced his cutting skills, he has definitely improved but still needs practice. (It doesn't help I can't seem to tell if he is left handed or right handed.)
We then explored the whole yard in search of the prettiest leaves. We glued the leaves to our tree and voila!
Now I want to save this for his school album. Any suggestions on how to preserve road project? I was thinking laminating?

A few weeks ago I signed up to receive the subway fitness kit for teachers and homeschoolers. It arrived in the mail yesterday and included all these goodies. My 5yo loves the pedometer, he runs around the house trying to get a high score!

Thrift Store Find: Science Edition

Posted by Liz McCoy Friday, September 2, 2011 View Comments

I’m super busy right now preparing myself and part of our home for the start of our first year of homeschooling! I’ve been collecting workbooks and teacher aids for a year or so now. I found this great Discover Kids Microscope at a thrift store this week. I had a sweet microscope as a kid that I loved exploring with and I’m sure my five year old will enjoy this one too.

It is missing some of the extras but the functionality is all there, and for $.85 it was definitely worth taking the risk!! A great score for our homeschool classroom.

Do you enjoy thrifting? What are your latest finds?
